Another great adventure to report! I work for a great company, Premier Insurance, and on my 25th anniversary with them, they gave me a travel voucher. I decided to use it towards a trip to NYC with the girls and check an item off my bucket list. I had only been to NYC once before and for a brief afternoon. I went to Liberty Island and walked around the Statue of Liberty monument, took pictures, but didn't go inside the museum or the crown. A few years later after 9/11 going into the crown was prohibited. I thought I'd missed my chance. Now, it's opened back up for a limited number of people each day. So I bought my advance tickets in January....I was ready to go. With the help of friends that have been and/or lived there before I had a jam-packed itinerary. Here is the run-down:
Malan and I flew to North Carolina on Friday, May 27th. My first view was of a little 2-old-girl holding a sign that said "Have you seen my Grammy?" (Can we get a collective "awwwwww"?)
We stayed with Maisie & Don for a few days and then the four of us, Maisie, Myla, Malan and I, flew to New York City. We started out with a walk down 5th avenue past St. Patrick's Cathedral, Rockefeller Center and a few other landmarks ending up at FAO Schwarz.
Here was Myla's favorite part of the trip - the super sized piano from the movie BIG. On our walk back we stopped at the Top of the Rock. It had a specacular view of the city at night. Next day, we took the subway to the Bronx and went to the Bronx Zoo which is the largest in the United States. Myla loved this too - until she fell asleep. Later that day we went to the observation deck of the Empire State Building and got another great daytime view of the city. That night we got in some shopping at Macy's and Bloomingdale's. We also stopped in Times Square - wow all of the lights! The next day we took the subway to Battery Park and caught the ferry to Liberty Island. Malan and I climbed to the top of the crown. I loved it. This was my highlight. Malan, however....not so much. She got a little queasy. It was a steep climb and no air conditioning, but totally worth it. Next was Ellis Island and it was fantastic. The museum is so interesting - we could have stayed all day. After we got back to Manhattan, we walked a few blocks up Wall Street and then over to Ground Zero. The memorial place was very touching - I still had goosebumps and it was very moving to see and hear about personal details of that horrible day. The next day was a trip to Tiffany & Co.....what a cool store. (I must rent the video). Then we walked through Central Park
and pretty much spent the rest of the day there. We went to the Strawberry Fields, rode the carousel, to Belvedere Castle, the great lawn and then side tracked out to see the Guggenheim Museum (duh, it was closed on Thursdays), then the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The next day, before we left for home, we went back to Times Square for some souvenir shopping. We accidentally found the Hershey store. It was really cool - and Myla got to be a factory worker and fill up our Hershey's pail of chocolates and sweet talked the guy to give her a few sample chocolates. It was a fun week - and as expected I took over 300 pictures. What a great memory. Thanks Premier! and thanks girls for going with me and making it a special trip!
